Acknowledge Your Progress (Lessons from Our Littles)

Apr 27, 2022

This kid. She teaches me so much about life every day - especially how to acknowledge progress (not to be confused with perfection) and celebrate our victories, big and small.

I mean, does she look even slightly concerned about the ice cream on her nose? Au contraire; she is totally thrilled with herself!

VP of Operations, Visions Internships is shown celebrating the completion of a 4th consecutive VIP (Visions Internships Program) April 2022

I am not joking when I tell you this child has been known to get out of bed during nighttime Zoom meetings with my interns to announce (eh-em, threaten) that she is not going back to sleep until I remember to introduce her as my Vice President of Operations.

True story.

OK, OK, yes, I am the one who anointed her with the title (we even discussed getting her business cards when I reprint mine, lol!), but I was clear that her primary job was to make sure she sleeps when Mommy has to get work done at night.

Great theory.

Now back to acknowledging your progress.

My best advice on this slippery subject? Rather than wait for someone else to acknowledge you, what can YOU acknowledge YOURSELF for today? Where have you made progress recently in your work or in your life? Would you be willing to identify – and maybe even celebrate – 1 thing? Just one. You can do it.

If, in reading the above paragraph, you noticed a wave of negative thoughts attempting to wash away your newfound possibility… Well, that is confirmation you are indeed human. Ha. Simply thank the negative thought and let it leave just as it came. Practice acknowledging yourself and watch how others seem to follow suit. #WhatWeThinkAboutWeBringAbout

I invite you to finish these sentences now:

  • “I acknowledge myself for …”
  • “I will celebrate my progress by …”

Seriously though. In case you forgot– you are a phenomenal human being. The world wins when you share your awesomeness with all of us.

In my experience, that happens most naturally when I am first willing to acknowledge my own progress.

And aren’t I lucky to have an adorable VP to model this practice for me day in and day out? (Feel free to refer back to her ice cream face anytime it serves you.)

To your Success
