Discover the Power of Your Entrepreneurial Systems Thinking!

May 22, 2024

Even if you don’t see yourself starting your own business, developing your entrepreneurial mindset is a smart move to set yourself up for success– today and throughout your life!

Did you know that May is Small Business Month in the U.S.?

Are you or anyone you know graduating this month?

Whatever you’re up to, it’s a great time of the year to dream BIG! As Mary Oliver asks, “What is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?”

Now imagine I am giving you a small magic wand to go out and make a BIG difference in the world! Take it and GO FLY!!

What will you do? Who will you help? What problem will you solve?

This big-picture systems thinking can open many doors for you. WHY? Today’s employers need you to be curious, self-motivated, and kind!

Trust me, your next employer will THANK YOU for putting yourself in their shoes – for thinking like an employer and doing your best to solve a problem and “figure it out” even when you don’t have the experience to do so.

Your next employer will also very much appreciate you asking for help when you feel you need it – ideally after you’ve organized your thoughts and identified specific requests.

Let’s look at systems to put in place to support your own success– starting with your own morning routine.

  • Do you focus on gratitude breathing, or do you grab your cell phone before you even get out of bed?
  • Do you consume water and nourishing foods, or are you running out of the house with last night’s pizza in a paper towel?
  • Do you plan your day the night before, or does your email inbox dictate your schedule?

It is humbling to remember that we all have the same 168 hours in a week. The question is, how do we use the precious time we have? And is that getting us closer to our goals and dreams?

We can always earn back another dollar, but we can never buy back another moment of time.

I am inviting you to look at what it’s going to take for you to thrive– not just survive. (And I can promise you, I’ve been in survival mode more than I care to admit, so I truly get it.)

I shared this insight from one of my business coaches in my recent blog to busy leaders, “If you are struggling in your business, you’re probably lacking a system.”

Likewise, when we are struggling in our careers, or in some other area of our lives, we are probably lacking some form of a system.

What is a system, really? I love thinking of a system as the bridge between your goal and the action required to achieve your goal.

For example, let’s say my goal is to be more rested and energetic during the week (it is!). I am aware that I need to go to sleep earlier (action), but I am struggling to do so consistently. One simple system I could put in place is to set an alarm for 60 minutes before the time I want to be in bed, and then for another for 5 or 10 minutes before.

These alarms would remind me to do what I said I would do when I said I would do it– which would develop into a healthy routine that supports me in achieving my goal over time. (Not a bad idea to also tell a loved one about your new system to help you reinforce the new behavior, at least for the first few weeks.)

What system would YOU like to put in place to support your own success? And what are you willing to do about it?

It has been tested and proven over and over – when you support your success, the Universe does too!

To Your Success!
