Financial Wellness Directly Tied To Your Wellbeing

Jan 26, 2022

Would you say you’re experiencing financial stress?

If you said Yes, you are in good company. According to a 2019 study by Capital One and Decision Lab, 77% of Americans feel anxious about their financial situation. And that was pre-Covid.

Despite it being National Financial Wellness Month, January can be especially challenging with people facing post-holiday credit card bills, inflation, and tax deadlines– to name a few.

At home or at work, money can be a huge source of stress that affects our overall well-being.

If financial matters can and do affect our health and wellbeing, why not schedule regular money check-ups, just like we were going to the doctor?

These self-induced “Money Dates” (thank you, Belinda Rosenblum of Own Your Money) could be a perfect time for you to get caught up on paying your bills, getting organized, or even crafting longer-term financial goals! (And if it is on your calendar, it is much more likely to happen!)

Before February arrives, I invite you to take a quick moment to identify one financial goal you have at home. And how about one financial goal regarding your work? More importantly, what is one step you can take NOW to move you closer to your goal?

Need help coming up with your financial goals? You can click HERE for more information about this list of 10 put out by LPL Financial:

  1. Increase your financial literacy
  2. Create a Net Worth statement
  3. Track your spending
  4. Reduce unnecessary spending
  5. Increase retirement savings contributions
  6. Pay off bills
  7. Set up or beef up an emergency fund
  8. Check your credit report and score
  9. Review your portfolio
  10. Work with a financial advisor

On that last point, BIG Shout Out to my advisor and friend Gretchen Meyer - who has thankfully guided me through a very rocky few years.

I would suggest choosing one or two goals to start and then breaking them down into smaller, measurable tasks that suit you... and you'll be on your way!

Don’t you just love checking **important** items off your To-Do list?
