New Beliefs for New Growth: A Summer Invitation for Young Professionals

May 20, 2025

May brings more than flowers—it brings fresh starts. From Mother's Day to graduation celebrations, this is a month of reflection and transitions. And with change comes opportunities for growth.

What’s next for your growth, with summer just around the corner?

Are you happy with the general direction your life is going? Do you feel fulfilled in your career? In your relationships?

What are you excited about? What are you looking forward to? Where could you use a little support?

When we make plans aligned with our growth goals, we start to feel excited about our lives and the future we are living into– no matter what the headlines say.

Now let’s talk about your BS—your Belief System, that is. (Yes, I know what you were thinking!) It is often our limiting beliefs that can hold us back and, therefore, are worth (re)evaluating.

What do you believe to be possible– For yourself? For your community? For our world?

Do you believe you are here to make a positive difference? Do you believe you can overcome adversity? Or do you let self-doubt creep in and squash your dreams?

While doubt and fear are part of being human, they do not need to take over your life. Studies suggest we have tens of thousands of thoughts per day, and the vast majority are negative—thanks to our brain’s built-in threat detection system… that helps us survive.

The good news is we have the capacity to choose our “second thought” – consciously replacing a disempowering initial thought like, “I’m a failure” with an empowering one such as, “I got this!”

Since our brains are constantly trying to answer the questions we ask ourselves (often subconsciously), why not shift from “Why is this happening to me?” to “What lesson do I need to learn here?”

Just like anything else, rewiring our thoughts takes commitment, practice, and a supportive community.

On a personal note, I chose the path of lifelong learning– which requires being open-minded and coachable– in my early twenties.

My parents’ bitter divorce, immediately followed by the horror of 9/11, happened the year this First Gen graduated college. During that unexpectedly dark time, I truly felt no one cared, and we were all going down in flames. I soon realized if I maintained that disempowering Belief System (BS), I would actually be doomed. So I chose to dive into personal growth and leadership development and become a proactive agent of change vs. a passive victim of circumstances.

I hope my story from darkness to growth has lifted you up and inspired you to take action in the direction of your own goals and dreams.

Speaking of taking action…
