How To Design Your Focus
Today’s Blog focuses on empowering Young Professionals– especially college students– but the topic “designing your focus” can add value to anyone at any age or in any circumstance.
Spring semester is upon us yet again. (I used to wonder what the heck was ‘spring’ about January in Worcester, haha)
Maybe you or someone you know is returning to college this week– as a student or an instructor.
In-person. Online. Both. None of the above. Constantly weighing the pros and cons. The juggle. The struggle. Is real. Big dreams in limbo as day-to-day needs win the day.
But where is your focus? And where would you like it to be? Want to develop a new superpower? Become focused in an unfocused world.
But seriously… Do you ever feel like you’re going through the motions– just to get the grade, check the boxes, or please others?
Especially if you are a college student, remember– you are the customer! I invite you to use this leverage to design your semester, design your college experience, design your LIFE!
- What excites you most about what you are studying (or want to study)?
- Who are you called to serve?
- What problems do you want to solve?
How can you incorporate these inquiries into class conversations and projects for credit toward graduation? Hint: Pitch an idea to your professor about how, together, you can better align class assignments with your career interests.
Wherever you are in your life, no matter the season, you can ask yourself some questions like,
- “What moves me?”
- “What do I care deeply about?”
- “What can I focus on today that will contribute to what I care about?”
As Tony Robbins says, “Where focus goes energy flows.”
What are you focusing on? You’ll likely get more of that.
If you don’t like what’s showing up in your life, you have the power to shift your focus.
It may be January in New England, my friends, but we humans are more resilient and creative than we realize.
Focus on what you want (personally or professionally) and take one step in that direction RIGHT NOW.
To Your Success,
Amy
P.S. We have 1 more spot for a purpose-driven young professional in our Spring 2022 VIP (Visions Internships Program) that starts next Tuesday, January 25th! Our clients are locked in and amazing-- 3 social impact nonprofits this time around. Application deadline has passed but I am accepting recommendations from people in my network to find this one last participant over the next few days. Who do you know who is between the ages of 19-29 and seeking meaningful real-world experience and the skills and support to succeed? This person would need to be self-motivated, coachable, and reliable to participate in our 13-week virtual project-based program. He/she would ideally be a tech-savvy, problem-solver interested in business/ organizational development, marketing, and social impact work. Feel free to have candidates email me directly at [email protected].
P.P.S. The longer I live, the more I realize the questions we ask and the thoughts we think largely determine the quality of our lives.
